CYCLOPS:
Angel, on your 12—you’ve got a shooter!
ANGEL:
10-4!
X-FACTOR; a group of five mutants who protect man and mutant-kind from threats of the world. The group is made up of Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Diamond and Edge. Cyclops and Edge are brothers, known publicly as Scott and Alex Summers—the adopted sons of Charles Xavier. Angel is Warren Worthington III, the son (and grandson) of the Worthingon’s, a influential family of businessmen who made their fortune playing the Stock Market and taking calculated risks. Beast is Henry ‘Hank’ McCoy, a standout athlete and scientist and Diamond, known as Emma Frost, is one of the most powerful telepathic mutants in the world. Together known as X-FACTOR, they battle under the guidance of Charles Xavier, who’s intent is to bring human and mutant-kind alike to live peacefully.
CYCLOPS:
EDGE, TO YOUR LEFT- TAKE OUT THE SNIPER!
EDGE:
Shout a little louder next time, maybe he WON’T HEAR YOU!
The brothers had a love/hate relationship, mainly hate. Despite being biological siblings, they couldn’t have been any more different. Scott is a nature leader whereas Edge is at his best when he’s able to improvise on the go. Despite not having the best relationship, they work together well.
DIAMOND:
Cyclops, what’s the plan once we’re in the facility?
CYCLOPS:
The Professor wants a hard copy of all data as apparently there’s some kind of block that’s stopping him from tapping in with his ability. The data will be able to provide him with info on what they’re up to and who else out there could use our guidance.
EDGE:
I know there’s more of us out there, but are you saying there’s a lot!?
Mutants is not a new concept, but it’s fresh. There was much to learn about how mutants work and where they came from and the mission X-FACTOR is currently on is one where origins is hoped to be learned. At the moment the team is infiltrating ‘H.F.T.F’ which stood for Humans for the Future, a private scientist entity that specialized in preparing humans for the ‘pending war’ with mutants.
BEAST:
Understandably so, but remember we’re also here to see if we’re able to release any captives!
CYCLOPS:
I remember the order, Beast. We’ve got our hands full but we’re going to make a statement today.
EDGE:
Let’s get this done.
Cyclops ability was to release a steady stream of energy from his eyes. Without specialized lenses in every day life, the blasts would destroy everything in front of him. The blasts were red in color, and was controlled by ruby quartz—Cyclops can see like the rest of us, but his vision does have a touch of red due to the constant usage of his eyes. Edge, his brother, could absorb energy and push it from his body through his hands – he could not control the amount of energy he takes, so a device created by Xavier and McCoy is placed across the center of Edge’s chest which limits what is taken in. When he is in the sun, the energy is much more potent as something about UV rays manifest into powerful blasts.
BEAST:
Are we going to continue as a five headed, pardon the pun, beast, or are we breaking into splinter cells?
CYCLOPS:
Good call Beast—Diamond and I will take the main facility, Beast and Angel you take the side path. Edge can you manage to take the back exit or is that too much of an ask?
EDGE:
Who do you think you’re talking to here? Do I look like I need help to clean these guys out of here? While you and your girlfriend are smooching in the dark, watch me work and get us out of here.
CYCLOPS:
Watch the attitude kid.

DIAMOND:
You two, enough! There’s no time for this, we need to keep focused! And for your information, I’m not his girlfriend, I’m your sister in-law, so respect that fact!
CHARLES XAVIER:
Please, not now.
Despite Diamond’s strong telepathic ability she was still a novice compared to Xavier, as Xavier could reach into the mind of many at the same time. He spoke to X-FACTOR, and his voice was the only reason Edge could listen to- as out of respect, he dropped the situation. As the team went on their way.. it would be the last time they worked together as that evening—it all went to hell.
“Professor, how are you feeling today?”
The voice of Henry McCoy sounded—his massive hands and feet stole the show as he hung upside down from a metal bar running across the ceiling. In a hospital wing looking area, Xavier was in a hospital bed with a gray blanket pulled to his chest. A few scrapes and bruises across his face and neck showed he wasn’t in the best of shape but the smile across his face said he otherwise was in a good place mentally.
“I’m fine Hank, thank you for asking. Pain is subsiding and I know it’s a long road of recovery but I’ll be able to get back where I was prior to the accident. Any luck?”
“Unfortunately not, Alex is still missing.”
“Hm, I’ve been unable to reach him as well. I don’t know if he has a block but it’s quite impressive. I doubt he’s worked with Emma and Scott, so the ability he has to keep me out of his thoughts is something I never figured he’d manage. That boy is always surprising me.”
“Indeed. I had Warren attempt to reach out too, but Alex, wherever he is, is adamant on not being found. After what happened…”
“Hank, no- not now. What went on, it needed to happen.”
“Professor.. I am so sorry.”
“Why, Hank? You played no part in the results. You, much like myself, were innocent by-standers. I am lucky that I took the worst of it. You did not deserve injury out of the situation, and face it, you stuck with me when my own children left me. Thank you Hank, you are the son I never had.”
Hank tipped his head to Xavier.
“I appreciate the gesture of gratitude.”
“No more expressing sympathy, I will be fine eventually. Recovery is a long road but with what we face on a daily basis, this is easy. But enough of that, have you had the chance to look into the plan for the future? Since X-FACTOR is non-functional, we need to recruit like-minded individuals to continue the dream. If we do not continue our work the damage will be severe and I fear unsalvageable.”
“I have some.. bad news, Professor.”
Xavier’s face read that of fearful man.
“What is it?”
“I think it’d be better for you to see it for yourself.”
McCoy reached into his back pocket and brought out his smartphone. After several swipes, he turned the phone sideways and handed it to Xavier.
“.. ladies and gentlemen, my name is Scott Summers also known as Cyclops. My entire life I have fought to keep the delicate balance of peace between humans and mutants but it’s becoming increasingly difficult each day. With my beautiful wife, Emma Summers and my three children, Nathan, Bobby and Jean – we strive to continue our peace effort!”
“What is this Hank?”
“Keep watching, Professor.”
“Due to the increasing threat levels, we have decided to dedicate our time and resources to The Summers Academy for the Gifted, where we can help those who need it.”
“Hank..”
“.. I know Professor..”
“At The Summers Academy, you can find peace in knowing that despite your differences, you still are special and you matter! Don’t think of us as a ‘school,’ rather, a family! With round the clock care, the ability to relate to your instructors and the chance to be selected to defend society as part of the S-MEN, we urge you to join our family here at The Summers Academy for the Gifted.”
A wide angle shot of Scott, Emma and the three children was brought on in front of a lavish estate-
“We look forward to working with you!”
Xavier handed the phone back to McCoy, absolutely bewildered.
“H- how? How did we not see this coming? How did he pull the rug from beneath us?!”
“I too am trying to figure that out. This is your dream Professor, Scott has stolen it from you! He’s stolen it from us! And he did so while you were incapacitated due to his negligence!”
The sound of the phone crunching in McCoy’s massive hands caused Xavier’s attention to snap.
“Hank, anger- anger does not help!”
McCoy let go of the phone and took a deep breath.
“You are correct Professor, I apologize.”
“It will be OK, Hank. We will continue our work, please reach out to Warren and have him meet us at home- we have much to discuss moving forward. If we hope to continue our work, we will need Warren to be on board as despite his hiatus, he can get through to people we are unable to.”
“Understood Professor.”
“That’ll be 11 bucks my man!”
A crumpled $20 gets thrown on the bar as a hand grabs a the shot glass filled with whiskey. The shot goes down the hatch quickly as the glass is slid over to the bar-tender.
“You want another one?”
“Naw, I’m good.”
“So when are you going back home?”
“Home!? I am home!”
“Alex, you know you’re ne-“
“Eh-eh, no. I’m no pawn, I do what I want. The days of Scott and Dad calling the shots are over. I’m my own man and I make my own decisions. They want to save the world, good luck- they can send me a postcard with the results. Edge.. Edge is dead.”
A pool-stick was swung suddenly, cracking against Alex’ back as Alex spun around- a smirk on his face as blood stained his eye-teeth.
“.. Havoc is alive, baby.”
