It's been a tumultuous year, and sometimes the answer for that is to get away and analyze situations from a distance. Despite being related by blood, Alex and Scott Summers has never really had a relationship that screamed.. brothers. Instead, they've been rivals, combatants and more recently, indifferent.
Blood tests show that the two are indeed related but that's where it stops -- there isn't much more to the story than that. The share a surname and father figure in Xavier but they couldn't be any more different if they tried. Alex wasn't the model citizen, he definitely was no role model but what he was- well, is- is himself. He never apologized or made excuses when he did things, he's always been Alex Summers, his 'team name' of Havok perfectly summed up his attitude. When things were good- it was good. But when a change happened and a curve ball was thrown from the pitcher's mound, Alex would lose grip on that cool factor and that hothead of his would shine through.
See there is differences between Alex and Havok aside of the costume that hides his face from cameras and the masses. Alex, whilst hotheaded, manages to keep his powers in check. He finds little ways to expel the unknown energy that's converted from solar rays in every day life -- he has complete control of his mutation. When Havok is on the scene, the mood changes and yes - he does need to be a bit of Alex in order to control the blasts he sends out, but he can be more carefree-- he's allowed to exert that energy and blast people and objects with the full wrath of pain.
However, since leaving New York behind and making a life for himself in Hawaii, he's been able to the first time really, experience life on his own. There's no older brother looking over his shoulder and calling the shots- no Xavier to send out objectives, instead this 33 year old is able to be a 33 year old. Under the eye of Xavier, Alex was expected to be a stout individual- one that had to stay away from the simple pleasures of life due to the 'duty' he was sworn to in protecting people as a member of X-FACTOR, but Scott essentially killed the group and it's vision. What was left now, was a bunch of individuals that needed to decide how to live their lives post-protectors, Alex.. was a step ahead. Soaking up the rays in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with one hand on a cold brew and the other behind his head - he was enjoying his solitude.
He's earned this.
